About us
We provide Hong Kong users with clear, verifiable gold valuation and weight-conversion tools. The site combines public-market gold, exchange rates, the Hong Kong tael and purity in one calculation method, alongside a directory of official jeweller and bank websites. It does not collect or manufacture official shop quotes.

- Multiple purity conversions (999.9, 999, 22K, 18K, 14K, 9K)
- Weight unit conversion (tael, mace, gram, troy oz)
- Jeweller and bank directory with official website links
- Silver price and the gold-silver ratio
- Live crypto prices in HKD
- Historical gold charts (1Y / 5Y and more)
Our philosophy
Information about buying and selling gold should be transparent and easy to understand. We aim to be one of Hong Kong's most trusted gold information platforms, helping users grasp reference prices before they trade and make smarter decisions. We also keep publishing original educational content, from beginner basics to practical tactics.
Data sources
International gold and silver prices come from gold-api.com; exchange rates from frankfurter.dev and open.er-api.com; crypto prices from CoinGecko; charts from TradingView. Data is retrieved through the same-origin Cloudflare Worker with source, last-success timestamp and stale status. All prices are reference estimates.
How shop information is handled
The site converts only international spot, exchange rates, the Hong Kong tael and purity into market reference values. Shop names and links are directory and identification information only; they do not imply affiliation or authorisation. Confirm actual premiums, buy-back quotes, fees and terms directly with the relevant shop or bank.
Background
hkgoldcalc.com grew out of a practical problem: when Hong Kong people buy or sell gold, they constantly have to convert between units — tael, mace, gram and troy ounce — and between purities such as 999.9, 916 and 750, while most online gold information is quoted in USD per ounce, which does not match local habits. We bring international spot, exchange rates, the Hong Kong troy tael and purity into one clear method, so an ordinary user can get a verifiable HKD reference value without looking up FX or doing the maths by hand. The site is primarily in Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong) with an English version for local and overseas users. We are not a jeweller, not a trading platform, and we facilitate no transactions — we only provide an education and reference tool.
Data updates and method
Market data is retrieved from third-party public sources through a same-origin Cloudflare Worker and cached on the server to reduce the impact of upstream outages or delays. Each price shows its "latest successful update time" so you can judge freshness; when an upstream API is temporarily unreachable, the system shows the last successful data with a timestamp, or a clear error, and never substitutes an unverified number as a live price. The core HKD conversion is: (international gold USD ÷ 31.1035 × 37.429) × USD/HKD = HKD reference per tael; crypto is retrieved from public sources and converted to HKD. All figures are public-market reference estimates, may be delayed, and are not any institution's official or executable quote.
