※ Bid/ask and net estimates are a reference / estimate derived from the international spot price (commission / weighing loss are typical estimates); they move with spot and are not any shop's or bank's official quote or dealing price. Bank items are paper gold / passbook with no physical delivery. Confirm on site.

Which Hong Kong shop or bank is best for buying/selling gold?

Original content · last updated 2026

In Hong Kong, buying and selling gold isn't limited to jewellery chains (Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sang Sang, Luk Fook...). Banks' paper gold (gold passbook) is another option. They are quite different, and this page lists both for easy comparison.

Chains vs bank paper gold

  • Chains: you get physical gold (bars, pellets, jewellery) to keep or gift; but retail premium and buy-back spreads are wider, and selling incurs commission / weighing loss.
  • Bank paper gold (BOC / Hang Seng / HSBC): tight spreads, quick and convenient for positions; but it's paper gold with no physical delivery.

What is the "net estimate"?

Net estimate ≈ shop bid per tael × weight (tael) × purity × (1 − commission/weighing loss)

When selling, shops may charge commission or deduct weight, so the "quote" isn't your "net". This page shows both; before selling, also use the sell-gold net calculator.

All prices on this page are reference prices / estimates, not official quotes or dealing prices, and not investment advice. Trademarks are used for identification only.
